SVHS Conducts Search for Illegal Drugs
Several County K-9 Units Assist
December 12, 2005
On Friday, December 9th, the Ogle County K-9 unit with assistance from K-9 units from other counties conducted a search of Stillman Valley High School for illegal drugs utilizing specially trained dogs. The search began at approximately 10:00 a.m. and finished just after 11:00 a.m. The search included hallway lockers, gym lockers, book bags from four randomly selected classrooms and vehicles in the school parking lot.
The purpose of utilizing specially trained dogs in a search of the high school is to fulfill the district's comprehensive plan to establish and maintain a safe, drug-free learning environment. The district has also conducted drug awareness presentations for district staff and parents to assist them in identifying and/or reporting students who may be under the influence of drugs. Meridian CUSD #223 needs and appreciates the cooperation of students, staff, parents and communities in confronting drug activity that negatively impacts the capacity of students to reach their full academic potential and poses a threat to a drug-free environment in our schools.
The search on December 9th uncovered no illegal or illicit substances in the areas searched by the specially trained dogs. Although no drugs were found during the search at SVHS, it is critical that staff, students, parents and community members report any specific information they may have on students who use, distribute or are under the influence of illegal drugs.
