Board Considers 2006-2007 Calendar
March 16, 2006
The Meridian CUSD #223 Board of Education is currently reviewing considerations for the 2006-2007 calendar. One of the important goals is to adopt a calendar that allows Stillman Valley High School to finish the first semester before Christmas Vacation. In order to achieve comparable number of days between the semesters, it is necessary to start the school year early enough to create around 87 student attendance days for the first semester. This becomes particularly important for semester length courses. In order to accomplish this, the first full day of school is tentatively scheduled for Monday, August 21, 2006. The last day of the first semester is scheduled for Friday, December 22, 2006.
Another consideration for the calendar is to align our calendar with other districts with whom we share programs. The Meridian School district participates in the Ogle County Education Cooperative where we transport students to other school districts. Additionally, Stillman Valley High School receives and sends students from and to Byron High School, Oregon High School and Winnebago High School. All of these districts and organizations have made a commitment to align calendars as much as possible.
