August 30, 2007
On Thursday, August 23, 2007 the Stillman Valley Education Association ratified a four year contract beginning with the 2007-2008 school year and ending in the 2010-2011 school year. That same evening, the Meridian CUSD #223 School Board unanimously approved the four year contract at it's regularly scheduled board meeting. Negotiating committees from the SVEA and the School Board met 11 times over the course of the summer for a total of nearly 80 hours to work out the contract. For the first time, Interest Based Bargaining (IBB) was utilized to negotiate the final contract. In this process both sides engaged in very direct and open communication about a wide range of topics relating to the educational program of the Meridian School District. In the past, the School Board and SVEA have agreed to three year contracts. The four year contract will provide a better opportunity to plan for future educational programming and facility needs.
