Board Begins Process to Determine District Long Term Vision
Special meeting scheduled for January 26 at Highland School
January 11, 2008
At its regularly scheduled meeting on Thursday, December 20, the Meridian School Board took action to begin the process to establish a Long Term District Vision. The purpose of the vision is to provide direction and a foundation for decisions that impact District operations.
One of the primary reasons for taking the time to establish a vision at this point in time is the impending facility needs of the district due to increased enrollment and renovation needs. Prior to finalizing a facility decision, the School Board determined that it would be in the District's best interest to identify a long term vision, which would impact the facility decision, as well as any other future decisions and issues.
The process to determine the District Long Term Vision will ultimately include the School Board, administrators, staff and the community. In order to provide the resources to successfully complete the process, the Board agreed to utilize Dr. Brad Hawk as the facilitator. Dr. Hawk is currently the superintendent at the Burlington Central School District, where they have successfully engaged a process to involve the district's stakeholders in establishing a long term vision. The use of community focus groups will be a significant component of soliciting community feedback and input.
A special School Board meeting is scheduled for Saturday, January 26, 2008 which will include the District Leadership Team (Board members, administrators, directors, and representatives from the faculty). The purpose of this meeting is to begin the process of establishing the Long Term Vision and prepare for the implementation of community focus groups. The special meeting is scheduled to begin at 8:00 a.m. and end at noon at Highland School.
Once this process is completed, it is expected the School Board will utilize the Long Term Vision to engage the facility needs of the District.
