Dance and Brain Based Learning

Cutting a Rug and Expanding Your Cranium

March 05, 2008

Students in 8th grade physical education classes participated in both Square and Hip Hop Dance classes during ISAT test week. There is significant research that documents the positive relationship between dance (specifically dance that requires ‘memory of patterns’ and those that are done in a non-threatening environment) and neurological connections. We hope that stimulating both sides of the brain will help students in some way with their creativity and extended response answers on their ISAT tests. Mrs. Kahle-Langston highly recommends that parents find time to watch a 20 minute video clip about Education and Creativity. The link is http://www.ted.com/index.php/talks/view/id/66 .

We also have a slide show with pictures of the students learning how to square dance. You may click this link to view it.  3/5/08 Square Dance
