Meridian CUSD #223 Finance Committee meets on fees

On Tuesday, May 25, 2010 the Meridian School Board Finance Committee met to discuss student fees for the 2010-2011 school year.  Approximately 30 community members were invited to participate in the meeting to provide feedback. 

Committee Members present were Ron Steenken, Barb Reeverts, Bruce Larson, Tim Jagielski, Bob Prusator (superintendent)

Community members attending were Phil Bratta, Barbara McManaway, Shelley Cotosman, Tim Duffy, Cindy Raimer, Jared Lewis, Brandie Messer, Tyler Haley, Tracy Haley, Kayla Acton, Tammy Modrzejewski, Anna Standard, Genny Wurster, Valerie Stone, Alan Alderks, Rhonda Ledger, Carolyn Timm, Mark Larson, Jim Miller, Alan Whitlow, Karen Marsh, Mike Lalor, Heather Lalor, Dee Marcum  

Mr. Prusator presented information of the purpose, background and legality of student fees.  He also shared information regarding the costs of the instructional program, parking lot and activities/athletics (click here for fee presentation).  Mr. Prusator also answered questions relating to the information.  Following that, the Finance Committee and community members were randomly broken into five groups and asked to determine what each group would recommend as reasonable fees.   After the groups met the large group reconvened and a representative from each of the five groups presented their groups recommendation with rationale.  A calculation of the average of the five groups was made.  The group conducted a final review with follow up questions.   The Finance Committee and community participants were in consensus that they were comfortable recommending fees based on the rounded average of in each area (Click here for recommendation).
