School Closure

Info from Dr. Caposey

MCUSD Families,

Given the guidance provided by our local Health Departments and the Governor of Illinois, JB Pritzker, Meridian CUSD 223 will be closed effective immediately with e-learning commencing on Monday, March 16th. In the attachment you will find more information on the e-learning process. Classes will resume (at this time) on April 6th and athletic practices and competitions (at this time) can re-start on Saturday, March 28th.

Buildings will be open for students to access lockers and to secure necessary belongings to support their learning

Any student who needs access to a Chromebook can pick one up in the Stillman Valley High School Multi-Purpose Room between 8am and 12pm. If this time cannot work for your family, please contact the Technology Director, Nick Belmonte (nbelmonte@mail.meridian223.org) to schedule a time to pick up a device.

While it is impossible to ensure internet access for all students, we have done everything we can to alleviate those concerns. If you do not have internet access, please contact Mr. Belmonte as we have secured a VERY limited amount of mobile hot spots.

Additionally, we are working with companies like Comcast to support connectivity for families in need and the FCC is also working on a solution. Simply, help is on the way.

For our students who receive Free and Reduced lunch, we will be providing 5 breakfasts and 5 lunches for pick up on Wednesday of each week we are closed. Food will be available for pick up from 7am to 9am at the following locations:

 SVHS parking lot
 MJH parking lot in front of courts
 DJ Park
 Harvest Glenn park (on Junction Rd between Harvest Glenn Rd and Autumnwood)
 Rolling Meadows in the park
 MC school parking lot

• If these times cannot work for your family, please contact Food Service Director Lisa Reber (lreber@mail.meridian223.org) to make alternative arrangements.

Our intent is to follow the guidance from our government agencies and to work from home as much as possible. So, I do not have scheduled ‘open’ times to report at this time. That said, our principals and I will be available to help with any questions or concerns during this time.

Before I conclude, I want to make a quick statement on e-learning. The intent of e-learning is to maintain continuity of learning, but it will not replace or mirror what we could provide under traditional circumstances. My hope is that e-learning does not provide stress to you or your child. If you are struggling, feel underprepared, or need support – please reach out to your child’s principal and we will work through this together

I am happy to help with any additional questions or concerns you may have. Again, my contact information is pcaposey@mail.meridian223.org or 815.980.0310. I have been blown away by our staff’s effort to get this in place in short order and by the outpouring of community support. I am proud to be a Cardinal.

Thank you.
