Health Services Update on Physical Exams

New law requires physicals prior to 6th grade instead of 5th grade

March 10, 2008

In August of 2007 the Illinois General Assembly made a change to the current law that requires all students to have a physical exam prior to entrance into 5th grade. The law now reads that all students shall have a physical exam prior to entrance into 6th grade. There is no longer a requirement for a 5th grade physical.

For the 2008-2009 school year ONLY, any 6th grade student who had a physical exam in preparation for school entry into 5th grade for Fall of 2007 will be allowed to use that physical to meet the requirements of the new law. If a student who is currently in 5th grade did NOT meet this requirement for the 2007-2008 school year, they WILL BE expected to do so before the start of the 2008-2009 school year in order to avoid being excluded from school in the Fall.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Kim Glendenning, Director of Health Services at (815) 645-2291 ext. 4146.
