Important Return-to-Learn Updates
Thank you to those of you who attended the Board meeting November 5 or tuned in via Facebook Live. As you may know, there were quite a few significant decisions to be made. The major decisions will be described below, directly and succinctly.
1) Return-to-Learn Plan
The district return-to-learn plan and all attendance patterns will remain status quo until November 30th. The hope is that regional and local numbers are better at that time and support the decision to bring all learners (that choose to) back to school face-to-face at that time.
This means that our Kindergarten - Fifth grade students will continue to be face-to-face five days per week and our 6-12th grade students will continue with the hybrid model.
2) The OCHD recommendation to suspend in-person learning between Thanksgiving and the middle of January
The BOE has decided to continually evaluate the data and to acknowledge that a pause is a possibility. That being said, the BOE has NOT decided to preemptively pause in-person learning at this time.
The BOE has decided to follow the guidance of the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) and the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) and to NOT participate in a competitive basketball season until guidance permits. In the meantime, both JH and HS basketball programs can continue to work-out as long as all mitigation guidelines are followed.
These were not easy decisions and I thank the Board of Education for entering into each of them thoughtfully and thoroughly. Please let me know if you have any questions.
