MERIDIAN JUNIOR HIGH CELEBRATES VETERAN’S DAY 2015 Meridian Junior High School celebrated Veterans Day on Friday, November 6. During the shortened day, the students attended three different activities. They wrote cards to be sent to soldiers overseas for the holidays, they completed a 1 mile walk for Dark Horse Lodge with Jerry Oleson, a veteran of the Marines and some of our students even ran the mile. The students also listened to Members of the Northern Illinois University ROTC. They were Captain Derrek Montoya and four ROTC Cadets from NIU. They spoke to our students and staff about the importance of Veteran’s Day and why we celebrate it. They shared videos and answered questions from students and staff. The eighth grade students listened to Ms. Ashley Koenig, an Illinois State graduate and SVHS alumni. This is her second year speaking with the students about one of her photography projects that she completed while attending ISU. Ashley has interviewed several different WWII Veterans from the area and has some artifacts and copies of pictures that they took when they were in the . . .
